Reiki: An Ancient Practice for healing Body and Soul
Today, more and more people are combining conventional medicine and alternative therapies in their search to heal their body and spirit. Reiki is one of the oldest healing methods still in existence which helps not only the physical and emotional but also the mental and spiritual healing. The goal is to promote an approach to life that combines insight and wisdom with empathy and unconditional love,
REIKI, "rei" meaning "universal" and "ki" meaning "life force energy", was re-discovered by Dr. Mikao Usui, who legend has it, was a teacher in Kyoto, Japan. Extensive research and meditation led him to the path of what is known as Reiki, the Usui system of natural healing. It was Hawayo Takata, a student of Dr. Chijiro Hayashi, Usui's successor, who introduced Reiki to the west in the 1930's and since then it has spread far and wide. Today, one can find Reiki healers and teachers in almost every country and a Reiki teacher should be able to trace back the lineage to any of the 22 masters trained by Takata.
Reiki believes that everything generates a frequency and so is the case with our body and it's organs, each having it's own energy field, which is continually changing. All conditions of disease are rooted in this energy system. If our "life force" is low or blocked, we are more likely to get sick but if it is high and flowing freely, we can maintain our health and well-being.
When there is a blockage in the energy flow, the chakras are imbalanced or there's a depletion in the aura, a person is at dis-ease. Reiki healing energy provides means to balance the energy fields ( Auras) and energy centres ( Chakras) to create conditions for the body's natural healing abilities to function normally.
The aura is an energy field surrounding the physical body and is a kind of protective layer. The seven main chakras have their origin in the physical body but they also exist in all the layers of the aura. Today, pictures taken with a Krilian camera clearly depict the widening of the aura after a Reiki healing. An attunement strengthens the aura and at the same time the inner strength and intuitive abilities to bring about changes to maximise health are increased. Reiki helps to take control of life and development and becomes an ever-present support system.
A weak immune system increases vulnerability to diseases, bacteria, germs and stress related conditions. Stress seems to play a large role in many immune disorders. Since Reiki strengthens the immune system it helps protect from many ailments and it's calming influence can help bring about the balance needed to handle stressful situations.
Reiki helps ease fear, anger and mood swings in addition to easing mental and emotional problems. It helps in identifying deep-rooted problems and gives a greater understanding to handle them and conquer negative emotions. One is able to cope better with day-to-day stress and achieve a calmer state of existence.
Reiki is believed to enhance memory and creativity.
Reiki can also be used for healing plants and animals.
An amazingly simple technique to learn, the ability to use Reiki is not taught in the usual sense, but is transferred to the student during a Reiki class. This ability is passed on during an "attunement" given by a Reiki master and allows the student to tap into an unlimited supply of "life force energy" to improve one's health and enhance the quality of life. 'Attunement' involves the opening up of the body's key energy centres, or chakras to the flow of energy. This process can be undertaken only by Reiki Master Teachers who have undergone supervised training. Reiki attunees are then able to use this energy either to heal themselves or others. Reiki energy stimulates or accelerates the body on a healing process.
Reiki practitioners channel healing energy to help activate the person's own self-healing ability. At the time of healing a person is fully clothed and although the focus is on the chakras, it flows wherever required. It is believed that the Universal Life Energy inherently knows where the damage lies and flows directly to the affected area. The energy is restored and the body returns to a state of balance in which overall health is improved, resulting in various improvements from reduction of pain and illness to speedy recovery after surgery. The body heals itself naturally.
A Reiki practitioner plays an important part in the healing process but ultimately it's up to the healee to bring about a change and balance the body to wellness and harmony.
